How PhonicsPro Uses Artificial Intelligence
PhonicsPro uses AI in two specific, limited ways: to generate spoken audio, and to support word-pattern analysis in select tools. This policy explains exactly how AI is used, what limitations apply, and how we protect students in AI-assisted interactions.
Core AI Principles
- AI assists; educators decide. AI-generated content is a starting point for teacher or parent review, not a final instructional or diagnostic verdict.
- We do not use student data to train our own AI. We do not use student responses or activity to train or fine-tune our own AI models. We are working to confirm and disclose our underlying hosting platform's AI data-use terms below.
- Transparency is required. Where AI-generated analysis is shown to a teacher, it is presented as a suggestion to review, not an authoritative answer.
- Students are guided, not replaced. AI-generated audio supports listening and pronunciation practice — it does not make decisions on a student's behalf.
Speech Audio Generation
PhonicsPro uses a third-party text-to-speech service to generate clear spoken audio for practice words, sentences, and phonemic-awareness items. Where pre-generated audio is not yet available for an item, the Platform falls back to your device's built-in browser voice, which may sound different in quality.
No text-to-speech engine, ours included, can perfectly isolate certain individual speech sounds (for example, stop consonants like /p/ or /t/) without some added vowel-like sound — this is a property of human speech, not a limitation specific to our provider.
Word & Pattern Analysis
Certain tools (for example, our word-analysis lens) use AI to suggest a word's likely syllable division, phoneme breakdown, or spelling pattern. This analysis is generated, not looked up from a verified answer key, and can occasionally be wrong — particularly for irregular or unusual words. Teachers should treat this output as a starting point and verify it before using it in instruction.
What AI Is Not Used For
- Final grades, mastery determinations, or academic placement decisions
- Diagnostic labels or learning-disability identification
- Standardized assessment scoring
- Cross-student profiling or comparison
- Targeted advertising to students, teachers, or parents
- Training AI models on student data
Mastery status shown elsewhere in PhonicsPro is calculated from a student's actual recorded practice accuracy, not from an AI judgment call.
Third-Party AI Providers
PhonicsPro is built on a third-party application platform, which powers some of our AI features, alongside a dedicated third-party text-to-speech provider. We do not ourselves use student data to train AI models. We are working to confirm, in writing, our hosting platform's own terms regarding AI model training on data submitted through applications built on it, and will update this policy once that is confirmed. We select and review our providers for strong data privacy practices.
AI Limitations
AI systems can make mistakes. Generated audio or analysis may occasionally be inaccurate, unclear, or contextually inappropriate. Teachers and parents are responsible for reviewing AI output before using it in instructional decisions. You may raise concerns about AI-generated content by contacting us directly.
